Why You Should Have a Mold Inspection Done Before Buying a New Home

After you find the new home that you want to buy, you may be overcome with excitement and forget to look for issues with the property, like mold. Due to this, it’s best to have our team at AdvantaClean of West Knoxville come in and do a mold inspection before you finalize the sale.

Where Mold is Likely to Show Up

Mold can thrive almost anywhere as long as the surrounding area is damp enough. However, there are certain places where you’re most likely to find mold in any home. These include the following:

• On the roof, around windows, and around leaking pipes
• Basements or other spaces that have flooded in the past and never dried out all the way
• Areas with poor ventilation

Although it may be easy to spot mold in some places, you may have a hard time locating it in others. When we come to do a mold inspection, we’ll make sure there isn’t mold growing anywhere that might have been missed by the prior owner.

Working with the Seller

Even though the seller should disclose any mold or water-related problems in the home that they’re aware of, they’re only required to report problems that they might reasonably be expected to know about. For this reason, before you call us to schedule a mold inspection, ask the buyer about issues that could lead to a mold problem. For example, you might want to ask them if they’ve had a pipe burst or if any of the windows leak.
